The Secret to why I REALLY do 150 pushups a day

I know...it sounds like a lot.  But really, when I started, it was with a mere 15 pushups....repeated 10 times during the day. 

The physical benefits are undeniable, and the impact on my appearance is positive, ...but that's not the real reason I do them. 

The truth is... do push ups because I'm lazy.  If I ever won the lottery, I'd be worried about living a life of slothery. (is that a word?)  

One of the most powerful traits I've ever seen in my successful friends, is their self discipline.  The greater the discipline, the greater the success (in many cases).   

With this knowledge, I decided on a ridiculous goal that was inspired by the actor Rob Lowe.  At age 51, Rob decided to do 100,000 pushups within 12 months.  The math on that works out to 274 pushups per day...every day.  Now, being that 15 pushups was about my limit, matching him didn't seem very doable.  However, I figured that what Rob Lowe could do...I could at least do half...right?  The number I felt was doable was 150/day, translating to 54,750 in a year.  

To start, I began with 10 sets of 15.  If I really pushed, I could have done sets of 20, but 15 was comfortable for me.

The discipline of stoping, and dropping 10 times during the day, and building that habit, is the real reason I do them.  If I can create discipline in one area of my life, that habit is transferable to other areas...such as prospecting for instance.  Making 10 cold calls a day...SUCKS.  But, if I do it, I'll see the benefits of it. I just have to DO IT.  Just like the push ups. 

If you'd like to join me in the Push Up challenge, here is the formula, regardless of your ability level. 

1.  Do your max amount of push-ups, or modified push-ups (on your knees)

2. Divide your maximum by 2.   (if your max is 10, then your number is 5)

3. Take THAT number, (in this case 5) and multiply by 10.   =50

4. This is the number to shoot for per day.  10 sets of (half your max) is your daily goal. 

 

Here are the results in just 3 weeks.  

1. My wife is totally checking me out...which is awesome.  I look a lot better already. 

2. My max has gone from 20-40.  DOUBLED!

3. It feels really GOOD to accomplish this goal

4. I've motivated 5 friends to join me in the challenge.  Each with their own goal. 

5. My belly has flattened out quite a bit.
